Little Cookies at the Festival

Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink is a great event for the little ones with food and farming fun at the Little Cookies area.

In 2017, activities included getting hands on with our Cookery Classes for Children, sponsored by Taste Buds with 4 x 45 minute sessions each day at zone 1 in Northernhay Gardens.

Farmers Ben and Ellie led the Let’s Talk Farming Discovery Barn, designed to ignite imaginations about British food and farming where friendly animated characters invited children to explore a series of interactive games, colourful information panels and fun activities, creating a truly memorable educational experience.

Games for 4-9 year olds included The Minute Milk Challenge, British Sunday Roast Produce Puzzle, The Farming Year Magnetic Maze and Farm Tour Tractor Experience. The Farming Champion Bean Bag Throw and Farming Flip-Board Quiz were ideal for those with more advanced reading and motor skills.

The Discovery Barn Activity Trail helped children to work their way around the attraction – plus there was an opportunity to pick-up a sticker and a copy of our farming activity booklet so the fun can continue at home.

Plus down by Queens Gate there was more fun to be had:

Children were able to take part in lots of hands on activities with Paignton Zoo including -

  • Edible bug eating and edible seaweed eating
  • Colouring-in area
  • Promotion of the English Riviera and its attractions
  • Promotion of the English Riviera Seafood Coast Campaign

Love Local Food and Exeter Scrapstore teamed up again to bring a zone of creative play. Making crazy food creations out of scrap, playing with earth and farms and enjoying seasonal storytelling of vegetables and other delights!

Love Local Food is the Exeter based social enterprise dedicated to connecting local people to local food. They run a mobile shop and a whole range of educational and community based projects. The Exeter Scrapstore is a registered charity with a whole store of scrap ready to be transformed into amazing creations.

Plus Face Painting helped everyone get into the festival spirit
