Scarecrows at the ready!
Written: 10 February 2012
This year the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink is launching a brand new scarecrow competition aimed at local school children in conjunction with Fermoy’s Garden Centre, sponsor of the Grow Your Own area at the Festival.
Fermoy’s are looking for local school’s to make scarecrows that will all be displayed at the Food Festival, from 13th – 15th April, to create a fantastic display in Northernhay Gardens.
“We are hoping that local schools will get their creative thinking caps on to come up with some amazing Scarecrows” said Sarah Dumont from the Newton Abbot based Garden Centre. “We would like them to come up with some masterpieces that visitors will be impressed enough to vote for in our competition to search for the best Scarecrow!”
Visitors to the Festival will be asked to pick their favourite Scarecrow from those on display and the winning schools will receive Gardening Vouchers to spend on their own school gardens and allotments.
“ We are looking for as many schools as possible to take part to ensure we get a spectacular display” said Sarah. “We hope that local schools will enter into the spirit of it and let their imaginations run wild to come up with some fantastic ideas. Scarecrows come in all shapes and sizes so you are only limited by the size of your imagination.”
The three-day Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink is also a great chance to buy the finest produce from over a hundred regional producers in two huge food pavilions. Pick up tips from over 30 chef demonstrations, get advice on herb, vegetable and fruit gardening and some hot BBQ cooking tips in the mini show garden in the Fermoy’s Grow Your Own area, get hands on in the Darts Farm Food is Fun theatre, keep future foodies entertained with a range of fun, creative and educational children’s activities in the newLittle Cookies area and enjoy the atmosphere of the South West’s famous food and drink Festival in the beautiful surroundings of Exeter’s castle and Northernhay Gardens.
Any schools who wish to take part or find out more should contact Sarah Dumont at Fermoy’s on 01803813504 or sdumont@fermoys.co.uk
